Gwangju Metropolitan City, which is developing itself as a hub for artificial intelligence (AI), participated for the first time in CES 2023, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, held in Las Vegas from January 5 (Thursday) to 8 (Sunday, local time). The participation aimed to showcase the technological prowess and products of companies under the Gwangju joint brand (GIEL) to a broader market. The event also resulted in export contracts and business acquisitions.
This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of local institutions including the AI Industry Convergence Division, Gwangju Techno Park, Gwangju Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, and various universities. The twenty-sixth interview was with Tai-Myoung Chung, CEO of Hippo T&C. Hippo T&C, a digital therapeutics development company, gained attention by commercializing a digital therapeutic device that diagnoses and treats ADHD in children using virtual reality (VR) and AI technology. The company was recognized as a promising firm by winning two innovation awards at CES 2022.
Tai-Myoung Chung holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Yonsei University, a master’s degree in computer science and engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Ph.D. in computer engineering from Purdue University. He has served as an engineer at Waldner and Co., a researcher at BBN Labs, a director at the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IITA), a director at the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and a director at the National Information Society Agency (NIA). He has also been an ICT advisor for the Republic of Rwanda, the dean of the Software College at Sungkyunkwan University, and the chairman of the Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center.
